Confessions of a Contrarian Penweasel

Seven years ago, Lexifab had almost-but-not-quite-finished the first draft of his NaNoWriMo novel, “Bard Wars”.
I thought, in light of the opening words of “Confessions of a Freelance Penmonkey”, which Lexifab recently quoted with approval: “I am a writer, and I will finish the shit that I started”, that it might not be *entirely* presumptuous of me to express an interest in reading the second draft.  Hmm?

Parenthetically, seven years after becoming King of Macedon, Alexander the Great founded the city of Alexandria-the-Furthest, now Khodzent, in modern Tajikistan.

And, speaking of novels and stuff, do those 'adult' covers for Harry Potter books irritate you as much as they do me?

Here is an example of the sort of thing we may see in the future if this trend continues:

Hmm, yes, well I expect that Bard Wars will return some day in a new form, which is to say with a new title, a range of new characters, situations and setting and the outside possibility of a plot. A total rewrite, in other words.

I have secured a fat stack of Arthur Conan Doyle, Clark Ashton Smith, Charles Dickens and Macchiavelli for my el cheapo Kindle classics, and will probably venture into the mad realms of Dostoevsky and Wodehouse before my sanity is entirely removed.

PS: I did so finish the first draft!

(Not well, I would guess without looking, and definitely not within the confines of the November in question, but completed nonetheless!)

Of course you finished the first draft! You just didn't seven years ago yesterday, but about a week afterwards, if the Ye Olde Interwebz are to be believed, hence the almost-but-not-quite-finished.

Your fat stack of el cheapo classics sound like they will keep you gainfully employed for some time. :)

BTW, I re-read the first of the "Great Brain" books on the weekend. It holds up well. As usual with things that I read at that age, it all came back when I re-read it. I shall probably blog about it when I finish "Stray".

Exactly! That will be the "Was Dumbledore Gay?" of the 2020s!

Beth: I think it would be safe to assume that he would not like them here or there. Nor, I suspect, would he entertain the suggestion that he eat them with a bear.

I never answered the question, did I?

I love those covers - just not for Harry potter books, on which they look unappealingly scholastic and grim.

I have belatedly realised that although I can enjoy fiction, I am not a typical reader. However, having read Bard Wars from start to finish, I really enjoyed it as it was. The question is why? and does this mean that other people should/would?

Rather than do a total rewrite, why not write a "companion novel" that ties up any loose ends and builds depth into that universe.
