Obama for Prez

Lexifab's devastating logic has convinced me. How could I have been so blind? It seems so obvious now- Obama is what America needs most, a charismatic public speaker.

It finally struck me last night: if elected, he would be the most inexperienced and the most radical President since... since... well, since Lincoln!

So things could hardly not turn out well.

Roll on the Jubilee!

Hurrah!

...

Unless, I guess, the parallel ran to half the country being in ruins, and millions of dead Americans.

(Damn it, I just don't have what it takes to pull off these April Fool's Day posts...)

That's all right, I knew it was a prank when you associated the expression 'devastating logic' with my name :)

Interestingly, the Lincoln parallels have never much registered with me, probably because the only things I know about that guy are his hat and facial hair, the content and tone of a couple of his speeches and the unusual circumstances of his death.

Comparisons with JFK are more resonant with me, although I'd obviously be anticipating that in order to be a remotely successful president Obama would at least have a different and perhaps less self-destructive set of character flaws than Kennedy and far fewer backers of extraordinarily dubious repute(like his father and the Mob, say).

Also, for his sake, I'm rather hoping that I'm not jinxing him by making all these associations with assassinated ex-presidents.

Now I really *am* sold. Honest. How do you say 'Ich bin ein Berliner' in Fukienese?
Of course, he'll need a down-to-earth Texan veep who can take his small initial commitment and turn it into the Mother of All Land Wars in Asia....

Apropos of nothing, I think we should run a book on who'll get the VP shoulder tap. Any suggestions?

You know, I am more than usually ignorant of the potential candidates for the VP position (on both sides), so I'm not much help. I hereby deputise you to go do some research...

Is there a constitutional reason Bill is ineligible? I think that would be the funniest outcome.

"Research" and me go together less well than "devastating logic" and me.

However, I believe that you have the winning suggestion!

(Except that my gut feeling is that there probably is such a constitutional constraint, otherwise we'd probably see more ex-prez's returning to Congress or state gubernatorialism or whatever).

Hmm, it seems to be a grey area constitutionally.

My thirty-seconds of research convinces me that a different Bill would be an ideal Obama veep. He has all the foreign policy and day-to-day governance background that Obama lacks, is in the right place for geographical balance, couldn't possibly have gotten those gubernatorial election figures without a good ability to appeal to the centre, and will help Obama's vote in the Hispanic community- which I understand to be pretty woeful.

For McCain, after reading that article on constitutional term limts, I am thinking why not Cheney again? Third time pays for all, as me old gaffer used to say.
